“Just by consuming a half a teaspoon daily, can help many ailments like…”

In this article we will be talking about the wonderful health benefits gained from including CINNAMON in your diet. Cinnamon mixed daily with your food is a great fat-burning nutrient/enzyme which helps to power up your metabolism by throwing a “metabolic switch” that ignites high-speed fat loss and burns your food for calories instead of storing it as body fat.

The sweet and spicy taste of cinnamon has been used by many different cultures throughout the ages. It was considered to be more precious than gold and was used in Egypt in the embalming process for bodies after death. It was also used as a natural food preservative for meat.

There are two varieties of cinnamon – Ceylon (which is a little sweeter) and Chinese, where in Ancient Chinese writings it dates back as far as 2800 BC. It is the inner bark of the cinnamon tree which is dried either in its tubular form, known as a quill, or ground into a powder. The oil from the tree is also extracted and distilled which can be used in perfumes, drugs, food and liqueurs.

Cinnamon has a long history, not only as a spice but as a valuable medicine. It contains anti-microbial activity and also has a great ability to kill germs. Studies have been undertaken and the results show cinnamon has the capacity to assist in stopping the growth of bacteria as well as fungi, including Candida. Also, because of this antimicrobial activity, medieval physicians used cinnamon in medicines to treat ailments of the throat and chest; such as coughing and hoarseness and it was used during the time of the Bubonic Plague where sponges were soaked in cinnamon and cloves and placed in sick rooms.

This impressive spice is a great source of trace mineral Manganese and high in dietary fibre, iron and calcium. The health benefits which may be gained from consuming just a half a teaspoon of cinnamon daily are:

  • Lowers blood sugar levels in people with type 2 Diabetes
  • Reduces LDL cholesterol
  • Assists digestive function
  • Stimulates circulation
  • Is helpful in preventing UTI’s – Urinary Tract Infections
  • Relieves arthritis pain
  • Aroma of Cinnamon can boost Brain Function and Memory

As you can see from the above, by including just a little cinnamon in your diet daily, whether used as a tea, by adding some to your oats or smoothies, or adding a little to your cooking you can reap the rewards of this popular spice and improve your health and wellbeing.
